This page explains what CodeKru (www.codekru.com) collects when you read our tutorials, leave a comment or contact us, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted. We do not sell your data.

CodeKru Tools (tools.codekru.com), where you run code and solve practice tasks, has its own account system and its own privacy policy.

Information you give us

  • Contact form: the form on our Contact page asks for your name, email address and message. They are sent to our inbox so we can reply.
  • Comments: when you comment, we store your name, email address, website (if you add one), the comment itself, your IP address and your browser’s user agent. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly; your email address is never shown. If you tick the box to save your details, your browser keeps your name, email and website in cookies for about a year so you don’t have to type them again.

Spam protection

  • Comments are checked by Akismet, a spam filter run by Automattic. Your comment and the details above are sent to Akismet for this check. See the Automattic privacy policy.
  • The contact form and comment forms use Google reCAPTCHA to block bots. reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and how you use the page, and sends it to Google. It loads only on pages with those forms.

Profile pictures

Next to each comment we show a picture from Gravatar, a service run by Automattic. To find it, a scrambled version of your email address (a hash) is sent to Gravatar. See the Gravatar privacy policy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read and how people find them. It records page views, the pages you came from, your approximate location (country or city), your device and browser type, and how long pages take to load. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. It sets cookies; you can block them in your browser or with Google’s opt-out add-on.

Advertising

Tutorial pages show Google AdSense ads. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads and may show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent first through Google’s consent message.

You can turn off personalized ads in Google’s Ads Settings, and read how Google uses data from sites that show its ads.

Videos

Some lessons include task walkthrough videos from YouTube. They use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and load only after you press play. Once a video plays, YouTube’s privacy policy applies.

Who we share it with

  • Google, for analytics, advertising, reCAPTCHA and YouTube videos.
  • Automattic, for Akismet spam checks and Gravatar pictures.
  • Our hosting provider, which runs the servers and database.
  • Anyone else only if the law requires it.

Keeping and deleting your data

  • Comments and their details are kept while the comment is on the site. Spam is deleted automatically.
  • Contact form messages are kept in our inbox only as long as we need them to answer you.

To have your comments or messages deleted, or to get a copy of the data we hold about you, send us a request through the contact form using the same email address. We will do it within 30 days.

All traffic to the site uses HTTPS.

Children

CodeKru is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes and questions

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page. Privacy questions are welcome through the contact form.
